DOUBLE-DECKER EXHIBITION STANDS · EUROPE

Double-decker stands where extra space begins with engineering.

ALLEXPO develops two-storey exhibition projects around the venue, structural requirements, escape routes, upper-floor function and the complete build sequence — not only the visual concept.

01 — SCOPE

When does a double-decker exhibition stand make sense?

A second level is useful when additional meeting, hospitality or staff space creates more value than the engineering, approval and venue costs it introduces.

Permission is venue- and event-specific. Hall height, stand area, upper-floor use, occupancy, stairs, escape routes, fire protection and structural calculations must be checked before a layout is treated as approved.

02 — DELIVERABLES

A two-storey stand is an architectural and compliance project.

01

Feasibility

Hall, organiser, height, footprint and upper-floor use reviewed first.

02

Structural package

Load concept, stairs, balustrades, drawings and required calculations.

03

Fire and escape planning

Occupancy, routes, signage and venue-specific safety measures.

04

Controlled delivery

Production, transport, staged installation, inspection and dismantling.

03 — PROCESS

Approval milestones shape the schedule.

01

Venue check

Confirm whether two-storey construction is permitted for the hall and event.

02

Use and occupancy

Define who uses the upper level and how people enter and leave it.

03

Engineering

Develop structure, stairs, guarding, loads and technical documentation.

04

Submission and production

Submit the required package and release production against approvals.

05

Installation and inspection

Build in sequence and coordinate required site checks before handover.

04 — COST

What adds cost to a double-decker stand?

The upper-floor area, steelwork, stairs, guarding, structural review, fire measures, longer installation, lifting and venue fees sit above the normal stand-build scope.

The custom-stand benchmark of €300–€800+ per m² net is only a starting reference for the base project. Upper-storey construction, engineering and organiser charges must be calculated separately.

Budget structure · base stand + upper level + approvalsStart earlier than a single-storey project; every venue and event sets its own submission deadlines.

Scope can include

  • Architecture and production documentation
  • Structural coordination and approval package
  • Transport, installation, handover and dismantling

Usually third-party or organiser costs

  • Structural inspection and approval fees
  • Fire-watch, sprinkler, utility or lifting services required by the venue
  • Exhibition floor-space and upper-level organiser charges

06 — FAQ

Questions before planning a second level.

Can every exhibition hall accept a double-decker stand?

No. Permission depends on the hall, event, construction height and organiser rules. Feasibility must be confirmed before design approval.

What documents are normally required?

Requirements vary, but dimensioned plans, sections, structural calculations, material information and escape-route documentation are common.

How early should the project start?

Earlier than a single-storey stand. For example, Messe Frankfurt asks for specified approval documents no later than six weeks before setup, but the applicable event rules must always be checked.

What should go on the upper floor?

Usually controlled-access meeting, hospitality or staff functions. The intended occupancy directly affects stairs, escape routes and safety planning.
